Hi Jenni,

There are some great suggestions coming out of this thread! We use MIPP Books to get titles from Russia and they are very efficient, according to our purchasing team.

Best wishes,

Damien

Hi All,

The African Books Collective are a reliable supplier, with reasonable prices and a great source of new titles. I highly recommend signing up for their newsletters and taking a look at their blog/editor's pieces.

We similarly use Hogarth on a small scale relying on agent suggestions (due to budget restrictions).

Mary Martin are also a great supplier with books from all over the world: http://bit.ly/2LpjWfL Catalogues can be searched by country output, or subject. They also send useful alerts for new stock arrivals.

We have also ordered and received books from Clarke's Books in South Africa. Great stock, however sometimes slow arrival, and often quite expensive shipping: www.clarkesbooks.co.za<http://www.clarkesbooks.co.za>

I haven't yet tried the following suppliers who regularly send us alerts:

MIPP Books (based in the US) http://www.mippbooks.com
KK Agencies (based in India) www.kkagencies.com<http://www.kkagencies.com>

I would highly suggest signing up to Africa Book Link newsletters for reviews, articles, new releases: http://africabooklink.com/

Similarly following the Africa in Words blog for events, festivals, reviews, literature prizes: https://africainwords.com/

This is just off the top of my head, but will share further sources as and when.

QUESTION: As a SCOLMA committee member, would it be useful for us to compile a list of suppliers for inclusion on our website?

All the best,

Hi Sarah,

We receive a mix of books/official publications from Hogarth, but we generally just rely on the agent's selections, and our spend is quite small. I would love to take the Leiden approach of taking trips to African for acquisitions purposes, but think that would be hard to get approved!

I was curious about the mention of African Books Collective (http://www.africanbookscollective.com/) and would be very interested to know if anyone is using them as a supplier, and whether they offer approval plans, for example.

Best,
Kevin
