Many thanks Nikki, we will bear in mind that BCU's scans are quality assured!Do any other institutions use Finereader to ensure text reflow / correct reading order, and does anyone go to the additional effort of embedding bookmarks or proofreading their OCR?It would be useful if the DCS could indicate whether uploaded PDFs include these accessibility standards within the 'Source Content' box. You can see if a PDF has bookmarks by opening the preview in your browser, but the only way to check for reflowable text is to download and open it in Adobe Reader (then using CTRL + 4 to switch to reflowable mode).BenHi Ben,
We process everything we scan through Finereader so that should cover text layout and reading order etc. We also double check each file before we upload it to ensure all pages are processed and quality assured, however we don’t embed bookmarks to chapter / sub chapters.
Best wishes,

Subject: DCS content accessibility
Dear DCS users,
I would like to know what processes you have in place for ensuring the digitised content you upload to the DCS is accessible.
I assume that we all make sure our PDFs have OCR, but are other institutions using software such as ABBYY FineReader to ensure that their files work in reflowable mode, follow logical reading order and include embedded bookmarks in chapter / subchapter titles to aid navigation? Does anyone take time to proofread OCR before uploading?
This is all the more relevant now that we have a wider view of content uploaded by other institutions, which may or may not meet the same accessibility standards.
Thanks all,
Ben
