An opportunity exists for a senior full-time researcher to join a new research group, working alongside Professor Mark Jenkinson (co-founder of the FSL analysis package), to pursue novel research in neuroimaging analysis in conjunction with the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).
This position will suit a researcher who is eager to develop new research programmes centred around novel neuroimaging analysis techniques for basic neuroscience and clinical applications, and is keen to gain experience in leading a research group and managing projects. The successful applicant should have experience working in interdisciplinary teams, applying for funding, and developing or applying novel neuroimaging techniques in research or clinical applications.
State-of-the-art facilities for human MRI and PET/CT scanning are available through SAHMRI, as well as the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and this newly founded group will initiate and support research in neuroimaging for both clinical and basic neuroscience projects, to foster neuroimaging within South Australia and build interstate and international links in this field. Strong links with the highly successful Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) already exist and this position is supported and based in both AIML and SAHMRI. As Professor Jenkinson has a jointly-funded position between AIML, SAHMRI, the University of Adelaide and the University of Oxford, and will spend 50% of his time in Oxford, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities to take a leadership role in the broad research programme of this group in Adelaide, and excellent exposure to international collaborations and networks.
To be successful you will need:
- A PhD, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience in the analysis or processing of medical images.
- A good record of research achievements as, for example, evidenced by published work in high quality journals or leading international conferences.
- Demonstrated experience in developing proposals for competitive grants and industry funded research projects.
- Experience in supervising higher degree research students or other researchers.
- Strong programming skills in a language such as python, matlab or C++.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills in English.
