I would like to draw your attention to a vacancy we have for a Principal Clinical Scientist based at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in metabolic paediatrics and newborn screening in addition to supporting the routine clinical biochemistry service. No specific experience of these specialties is required as full training will be provided.

Appointment to Band 8a will require you to have relevant Clinical Biochemistry experience, to be HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist and have an MSc or equivalent in Clinical Biochemistry and Part 1 FRCPath.

Appointment to Band 7 will be considered for applicants without Part 1 FRCPath, who are HCPC registered or expected to be imminently HCPC registered. The post holder will be expected to achieve Part 1 FRCPath and the necessary competencies within a three year period at which point they will receive automatic progression to Band 8a.

The post is currently advertised on NHS jobs with job reference number  317-2019-27-05-DR.  Closing date is August 4th  with interviews scheduled for August 29th 2019.

Newcastle upon Tyne is a great place to live and work, it is a vibrant friendly city with excellent leisure, sport and shopping facilities. The Northumbria coast is close by, with miles of unspoilt beaches. There are many excellent local schools and good transport links to the rest of the country.
