Dear Lowri

I think that there should be some film from the curator at Bradford on the SHCG website?? There certainly used to be something also on the national media museum website. Attached, some simple terms which might help.

All best

Good morning everyone,

I’m currently revising our Adlib thesaurus terms, which have never had any work done on them in the past, and currently working on the ‘techniques’ section, and am a bit stumped on what photography terms we need. I’ve looked at a number of the openly available techniques thesauri (MERL, Getty), but the level of detail they go into is way too much for our needs. We’ve a relatively small collection of photographs (just over 400), which are mostly late 19th century or 1960s, with a few studio portraits c. 1920 and a few colour photos from 1980s<.

I’d like to expand the photography technique terms to include a bit more information than just ‘photography’, but none of us here have enough knowledge of photography processes to know which ones we need and how to describe them in a useable way! Does anyone have any suggestions, or examples of pared-down photography techniques that they’d share?

Many thanks,

Lowri
