Subject: 50 years of Bogle L'Ouverture Publications

Dear All,
Hope you are well and prosecuting the struggle with vigour! I've had the pleasure to write a book in celebration of Bogle L'Ouverture and its founders, Eric and Jessica Huntley. Swimming Against the Tide : Eric and Jessica Huntley; Celebrating 50 years of Bogle L'Ouverture, tells the story of these two ordinary people who originally joined the struggle to fight for independence in Guyana (formerly British Guiana). They moved to Britain in the 1950's and continued their campaign in alliance with various activists and academics who were also concerned by the high level of racism and injustice on both sides of the Atlantic.
The trigger for setting up Bogle was the treatment of the historian Walter Rodney was sacked by the university of the West Indies and deported from Jamaica. The Huntleys wanted the world to know what was happening. Hence, the publishing house which was soon followed by the bookshop.
This well illustrated book looks at how the Huntleys fused academia with activism, art with activism, engaged parents, teachers and students in the many campaigns listed in the book. Copies of the book are available at all Friends of Huntley Archives at LMA (FHALMA) events or by post. Check out the Festival of Education at Sheffield Hallam University's Institute of Education on 14-15 June. See the Fhalma website www.fhalma.org for more information and books or email me at [log in to unmask]

Don't weaken!
Malcolm
