Education Officer

 

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre (a registered charity) is the only science discovery centre in the UK with chemistry and STEM as its main theme. It has an extensive educational programme for schools and the general public, and offers activities for a wide range of ages from infants up to adult learners.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team, working with the Education Manager to help deliver and develop Catalyst’s educational activities to schools, groups and the general public and to assist with administration within the education department. You will have the responsibility for the development of material for use with school students at KS4 (and occasionally above).

 

Essential attributes:

·         Excellent communication skills to suit a variety of audiences

·         Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team

·         Ability to contribute to the writing of shows and workshops for school and public groups

·         Able to manage a diverse workload and for managing facilities, equipment and resources

·         Ability to work flexibly to suit the needs of the business which may include some early starts, late finishes and weekends

·         On appointment you will need to be eligible to pass an enhanced DBS check as you will be working with children

Desirable attributes:

·         Experience of delivering information and/or leading workshops or other activities

·         Experience of development of science activities for the general public/school groups

The successful candidate will work part time, minimum 4 days a week, which will include some public holidays and weekends. Salary to be negotiated, dependent on qualifications and experience.

Weekend Science Presenter

 

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre in Widnes, Cheshire is looking to appoint a suitably qualified Science Presenter to deliver the award winning Education Programme to families and groups visiting the Science Centre at the weekends. The role will involve delivering hands-on science workshops and shows, performing scientific and chemical demonstrations to the public and enthusing children and adults about science. The successful candidate will have:

 

·         the ability to present information in a confident and enthusiastic way

  • excellent communication skills
  • the ability to work with people of all ages. 
  • a strong interest in science, including a minimum of an A-Level in Science (Chemistry, Biology or Physics) 
  • on appointment you will need to apply for a  DBS check as you will be working with children and their families. 

The job will usually involve working at Catalyst for 1 weekend in every 3, although flexibility will occasionally be required to cover special events and holidays. Pay: Hourly rate - national minimum wage.
