We have a jigsaw out on the table. We start it off and have made a couple of cardboard trays – one smaller & one larger – which stop the pieces from falling on the floor and which mean that the pieces can be spread out. It’s not been found to be noisy & we have quite a broad selection of people who like to fiddle with it – from Estates staff to Consultants.

We limit our jigsaws to 350-500 pieces as I feel that people will get bored with the slow progress of the larger ones.

We check the jigsaw each day, removing pieces that have obviously been shoved in the wrong places. We also try to put out in an obvious place a few pieces that will fit so that people are encouraged by finding an easy start.

This picture shows the most recently-completed jigsaw in the large tray. The small tray is under the lid.

Best Wishes

Not really answering your question, but – we’d thought of having a jigsaw out in the library but aren’t sure about the noise it will make as people sift through the pieces in the box. For those who have already started doing this, do you just have a small jigsaw so all the pieces can be out on the table, do other people do jigsaws much more quietly than I do, or do you have a separate area of the library that you can use away from the working area?

Thanks

Hi all,

I’d like to pick your brains!

Like many of you I suspect, we are organising an area of the library as a “well-being area”, comfy chairs, beanbags, useful information for body and soul, jigsaws etc etc……

We’re “opening” the area as part of HIW.

We’ve been referring to it as the wellbeing zone or a relaxation area but that feels as if we are telling people that they WILL be well and they WILL relax!

One we’ve thought of which is slightly less directive is “Breathing Space”.

Have any of you lovely people got any ideas? What have you used?

Looking forward to some creative ideas!

Thanks
