Dear All,

Hope this finds you well and not underwater.

A quick heads up for you.  Icon (Institute of Conservation) has sent out a call for papers for an event on October 17th in London at the Science Museum discussing modern materials.  This event is targetted at both conservators and non conservators. Many of you may find this interesting and useful for your collections, as well as being a good chance to meet like minded people (and possibly useful conservation contacts).  If anyone is brave enough to submit an abstract the deadline is June 30th - it's a good way to publicise a project, meet some of your diverse audiences targets, or to kick start a research question or ask for suggestions.

The event proper will be advertised on the Icon website https://icon.org.uk/events and I will also try and keep an eye out for any mailings about the subject so I can send them on.

Deborah

Icon MMN Call for Papers

Challenges of the Modern Object

#NoMaterialTooModern

The ICON Modern Materials Network is inviting abstracts for a one-day symposium on the 17th October at the Science Museum, London. The day aims to bring together conservation and non-conservation professionals with an interest in the preservation of modern materials such polymeric materials (plastics), modern metal alloys, carbon fibre, modern production techniques (e.g. 3D printing) and modern objects that have intrinsic challenges, like batteries and modern technology.

Abstracts on all materials from the 20th and 21st century will be considered – no material is too modern! We are particularly interested in research or treatment in progress and perceived ‘failures’ to fuel ongoing discussions throughout the day and beyond.

The day will be split into talks on current research and poster presentations.

Please specify which you would like to submit to.

Submission criteria:

• Abstract submission deadline: 30th June 2019

• Word max: 250 words

• Language: All abstracts and information must be submitted in English.

• Please state whether you are applying for a talk or poster presentation.

• Submissions should sent by email.
