With one week to go to the abstract deadline, we would like to again draw your attention to the following session being held at the 2019 GSA conference in Phoenix, AZ from September 22-25.

T24: Metamorphic Petrology, Past, Present, and Future: Preparing for the next 100 years with the Mineralogical Society of America. 

Metamorphic petrology is a cornerstone of modern solid-earth research, providing key constraints on the tectonic processes and mechanisms by which mass and heat are redistributed in the crust. One hundred years since its formation in 1919, the Mineralogical Society of America continues to play a significant role in supporting this field, in which recent years have seen tremendous advances in many areas including new approaches and developments in phase equilibrium modeling, new techniques in thermobarometry (e.g., trace-element thermobarometers and Raman-based measurements of mineral inclusions), and new analytical approaches in metamorphic geochronology (e.g., Laser Ablation Split Stream Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry). Together these and other exciting developments have reinvigorated the field, opened hitherto inaccessible geologic problems, and attracted a new generation of researchers. In celebration of the MSA centenary, this session seeks to capture this excitement by highlighting past milestones, recent developments, and future directions of metamorphic petrology research. We actively seek contributions from a diverse group of researchers from early career to established individuals who share our passion for the MSA and metamorphic petrology.
