The University of Leeds Postgraduate Disability Studies Conference organising committee are pleased to invite you to our PG conference with the overall theme of ‘Disability Studies: Past, Present and Future’ on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th July 2019


We invite applications from students who are currently undertaking or who have recently completed any level of postgraduate study to present a paper or poster. The conference will provide a friendly, supportive platform for PGs to present research and celebrate progress and advancements in the understanding of disability discourse and activism, with the promotion of engagement between PGs, academics and disability activists being at the heart of the conference.


Applicants may submit abstracts on the following suggested, but non-exhaustive, sub-themes:
• Disability Rights after Brexit
• Working Together? Activism and Academia
• The Social Model in the 21st Century
• Disability Studies in a post-CRPD era
• Interdisciplinary Disability Studies: New Directions
• Disability and Intersectionality


Abstracts might cover a range of topics such as education, employment, accessibility, the history of the Disabled People’s Movement, and cultural, legal, economic or political perspectives. Applicants are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 250 words for paper presentations and a copy of a poster forposter presentations. Posters must be printed by the author on acceptance to present at the conference. Submissions are to be sent to [log in to unmask] by midnight on Sunday 16th June 2019. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 28th June 2019.
