Basic Description: Applications are invited for a one and half year, full time, fully-funded M.Sc. research position at Maynooth University’s Hamilton Institute, which could potentially be extended to a four year PhD. Forensic DNA evidence often plays an essential role in criminal cases, but misinterpretation of complex crime-scene samples has occasionally resulted in substantial miscarriages of justice. The goal of this data-driven project is to remedy that situation by developing the statistical and computational framework necessary to accurately assess high dimensional data from novel experimental methods that provide data from multiple single cells. The work will be supervised by Prof. Ken Duffy. It is supported by National Institute of Justice, USA, through collaboration with Prof. Catherine Grgicak at Rutgers University as part of the PROVEDIt initiative. Candidate Profile: The candidate should hold a good, usually first-class honours, degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, and be motivated to tackle challenging problems with real-world significance. Stipend: The postgraduate scholarship pays university fees and carries a tax-free stipend of €18,500 per year.
