Hello UK Comics Scholars,
Two things-
The Youth Libraries Group North East (part of CILIP The Library and Information Association) annual training day is at Newcastle City Library this
Saturday 18th May and is all about comics. Book your place here
https://www.cilip.org.uk/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1219473 . I’m one of many presenters (also: Mel Gibson, Tara Mcinerny, Paper Jam Comics Collective, Andy Hodgkinson of Gateshead
Libraries, Becca Swainston of Travelling Man).
Comic Swap – the annual postal exchange for groups of children that make comics –
deadline is 24th May 2019. Full info here
https://comicswap.wordpress.com/2019/03/01/swap-dates-for-2019/, and examples from previous years. You post us 6 copies of a comic made by a group of children, with a signed permission form. Hannah Sackett and I add one copy to the Comic Swap library (with
Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children’s Books), then we post you a mix of 5 comics made by other kids’ groups. It’s a great way to connect groups of kids who make comics (without the expense of convention tables), and to build a collection of comics
made by young creators.
Best,
Lydia
