Dear All,

Here are some announcements of interest:

1:- MMC2019 conference 1st-4th July 2019 (see attached flyer). Myself,
Martin Jones (Crick) and Jason Swedlow (Dundee) are chairing tracks on
image analysis. My track (Thursday 4th) is especially aimed at serving
bioimage analysts and so I encourage you to attend for this and the
other tracks. The RMS still have some travel bursaries available
(https://www.mmc-series.org.uk/general-information/about-the-congress/travel-bursaries.html).

2:- Train-the-trainer for bioimage analysis (details below). We still
have a few places free and travel bursaries available for the
train-the-trainer event happening 30-31st May.

3:-  RSEConUK 2019 Conference, taking place on 17th - 19th September
2019 (details below). I went to this last year and had a very enjoyable
time. It is a great way of networking with research software engineers
from different fields and also with industry.

2:- Train-the-trainer for bioimage analysis

Dear All,

As a prelude to us running our own IAFIG training courses, we decided at
a recent IAFIG committee meeting to run our own Train-the-Trainer event
to give our existing image analysis experts the skills they need to
create and run training courses. The good news is that Gabriella
Rusitici and myself have written to the RMS and they have agreed to
support this event financially. We therefore invite you to attend the
Royal Microscopy Society Train-the-Trainer (RMS-TtT) event being run at
the Cambridge Bioinformatics Training Centre 30-31st May. The course is
is available to image data analysts who are already involved in
delivering training or planning to do so in the near future.

Having received your comments and discussed at our committee meeting we
have changed the course slightly to occupy _just two days:_

The new course will run as follows:

Day 1 Thursday May 30th:
09.30 - 10.00   Introductions, who is who and what we need to achieve
10:00 - 12.30   Session 1: What makes good training (and trainers)
12.30 - 14.00   Lunch (IAFIG committee meeting).
14.00 - 18.00   Session 2: How people learn and learning methods /
activities

Day 2 Friday May 31st: :
09.30 - 12.30   Session 3: Designing sessions and course curricula
12.30 - 14.00   Lunch
14.00 - 18.00   Session 4: BioImage Analysis Course Hackathon.

We are very excited to now offer you the chance to attend. Due to your
prior interest we open the applications up to you first before
re-advertising more generally. The course registration is now open. To
register and for venue information, please use the following form:
https://training.csx.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics/event/2956475 (see red
text for booking).
Toward the end of the event, we will also have a hackathon. This session
is designed for attendees to try out their new skills and to collaborate
towards a future national  image analysis course to be run in the
Bioinformatics centre.

The course is free to attend and lunch will be provided each day.
Accommodation and travel need to be organised by the attendees. Please
see the following guide for details of transport and accommodation
(transport guide) The RMS have kindly offered a limited number of
bursaries of £100 to help with transport and accommodation. These
bursaries are on a first come first served basis, but giving priority to
requests from participants coming from further afield. Please email
Dominic ([log in to unmask]
<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) to apply. In addition, those
members who wish to join in the next IAFIG committee meeting (taking
place during Thursday lunchtime) can join and claim the money toward
their travel and accommodation in the normal way.

Any questions or comments then please email me directly,

Best wishes,
Dominic
