Local elections in the United Kingdom are taking place today contesting 248 English local councils, six directly elected mayors in England, and all 11 local councils in Northern Ireland

Use the 
BBC postcode database to see if they are taking place in your area.

Your Vote matters provides more detailed official information from the Electoral Commission

Their 
official website has research reports on election registration and past results. It also has a handbook for journalists with basic facts about the elections

the 
House of Commons Library blog also has some good basic background to the elections

Democratic Audit has created a dashboard with information for votes.
