freedom of the Press ranking is compiled annually by Freedom House .
Other well known indexes are:

The African Media Barometer was developed by fesmedia Africa, the Media Project of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) in Africa, and the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) in 2004.
Every two to three years a panel of 10 to 12 local experts, consisting of at least five media practitioners and media expert and five representatives from civil society, meet to assess the media situation in their own country. A report is then compiled by expert panellists based on 39 criteria,
Afrobarometer has a new report on media freedom from opinion polls conducted in African nations
European Centre for Press and Media Freedom has a resource section on its website with useful research reports and papers on trends in media pluralism and threats to media freedom in the region

 

LGBTI inclusion index

 

UNDP has just devised the first indicators on how to measure LGBTI inclusion. This is part of the process of measuring the delivery of 2030 development objectives. It provides  provides a set of 51 indicators in the areas of health, education, civil and political participation, economic empowerment, security and violence. General News on the Internet web Archive

 

This new collection has been launched by the Library of Congress. Since June 2014 they have regularly been web archiving online only general news sites mainly from USA. These are now available and searchable in one place. There are currently 54 items. Of these 17 can be viewed openly on the Internet the rest onsite in the library. However this can still be helpful as they. They include the Huffington Post
