It looks like the points which are attached to the end of jetty piles when driving them into the sea/river bed to protect the point and aid the process of driving them in.

There’s one in the illustration, bottom left, on page 114 of this document

Apologies for cross-posting but a colleague is trying to identify this object – as you can see he’s contacted the Maritime Curators’ Group but just to cover all bases (as it may have washed down the river), thought I’d ask you guys too!

Happy Friday!

Subject: Unidentified Object - Aberdeen Maritime Museum

Dear Ms. Thomas,

I’m contacting you as a recently appointed member of the History Curator team based at the Aberdeen Maritime Museum. Maritime history is part of my responsibilities and without being an expert in this field, I’ve found the Maritime Curator’s Manual very useful. The museum recently took in an object from a member of the public who found it on the beach next the South Breakwater at the entrance to Aberdeen Harbour. He claimed it was a beacon but we are all unsure as to its function.

I’ve included images below:

I’m not sure if it would be possible to forward this to members to assist in identifying what it is?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Ross MacLennan
