I have been reading this discussion with interest and agree with Claire that networking in person is ideal. However I believe that there are opportunities being missed here for networking online with the technology we now have at our fingertips. And at no cost to the planet in terms of flights or car journeys.

I am one of the ten organisers of the free Virtual International Day of the Midwife conference and we utilise one university’s virtual conferencing suite to run the conference.

Every university is likely to have virtual conferencing software. It would be very straight forward to organise workshops/seminars/ presentations using this to discuss research with others in the research community. Those available could join these sessions live and others later via the recording of the session.

And if the owners of the sessions were very generous with these recordings and allowed free easy access to them, any midwife anywhere could learn about the research. (All our presentations from almost every year of the conference are freely available on You Tube - Virtual Midwives).

Equitable access to Midwives from developing as well as developed countries.

And at no cost to the planet!
