Lloyds's Register's Survey & GeoEngineering division (LR S&G) is looking to
recruit a full-time Geospatial Applications Engineer to support the
development, delivery and maintenance of geospatial related services and
applications associated with marine operations within the offshore energy
sector. The successful applicant will become part of a small and focussed
team undertaking design, development, product delivery and maintenance of
in-house web mapping and associated web-applications and data delivery
services.

The role will be based at LR's office in Bath.

Key Responsibilities & Activities

• Support the design and delivery of open-source web mapping services and
applications within LR S&G's proprietary IRIS applications family
• Manage and/or support the development of applications from design through
to delivery;
• Support maintenance of the IRIS infrastructure code-base, front and back
end;
• Geospatial database administration (PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
• Generate OGC compliant web services, such as WMS/WFS (Geoserver) and
WM(T)S/TMS (MapProxy).
• Create map visualisations using desktop and web-based frameworks (Mapnik,
MVT Styling).
• Generate and maintain technical specifications and geospatial
documentation.
• Data handling and conversion of geo-survey related datasets , DTM/raster,
vector, point-cloud, CAD, GIS.
• Innovative and pro-active, continually looking at new ways of working and
improving so LR S&G can expand our service offering to our clients

Technical/Professional/Qualifications

The successful applicant is expected to have a thorough grounding and
significant experience in the development of web-based GIS and mapping
related data services  and have a good technical understanding of how such
services are developed, constructed and maintained. An ability to maintain
and develop code using javascript frameworks such as React or Angular would
be seen as advantageous, although is not mandatory. Experience with product
or service delivery management is also preferred.

A degree Qualification in GIS, geomatics or a related technical /
engineering / software discipline is preferred, however relevant knowledge,
experience and enthusiasm is equally important to us. Experience, working
knowledge and/or good visibility to the range of relevant technical
discipline listed below is sought.

• Solid foundation in geospatial programming and automation e.g. Python
• Structured Query Language (SQL) with spatially-enabled SQL database
applications.
• Geospatial tile services. e.g. MapProxy, vector tiles
• Front end geospatial mapping libraries, e.g. MapBox GL JS, OpenLayers,
Leaflet.
• HTML5 and front end JavaScript frameworks and charting libraries e.g.
Angular, React
• Server-side maintenance and frameworks. e.g Linux SysAdmin, Bash, Node.JS
• Cloud solutions and services including Microsoft Azure
• Desktop GIS applications and tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GDAL/ OGR, GRASS
• Version control systems e.g. GitHub
• Emerging web technologies & API's (eg Streams API), web sockets,
ServiceWorkers, PWAs.
• Design, development, test and deploy data-driven solutions.
• Open Source libraries such as GDAL/OGR & GMT
• Geodesy concepts and their application to geospatial data
