In the back of Grenfell the accommodation act was amended and the new (April 19) fitness for Human
This will help put pressure on landlords and estate agents to ensure their property is ‘fit for human habitation’ meaning a whole load of things including fire proofing , repairs etc

The other superb piece of legislation is the Tenancy Fee Act  2019
ALL payments are essentially prohibited unless the payment is expressly “permitted” under the Act. For example, rent and deposits are permitted under the Act but even they have restrictions (yes, even rent has some restrictions).
From 1st june it’s ILLEGAL to charge fees , any fees viewing fees , registration fee , credit score fees any fees is illegal except rent and capped deposit (5weeks)

Please share wide , this is really good news!

I recently co- delivered a training on the subject with
a colleague from tower hamlets council to ESOL teachers to provide information and signposting guidance.
Make sure your learners (and everyone you know ) is aware of these 2 latest changes to the UK legislation

With the removal of legal aid it might be difficult to enforce but it’s a useful tool to protect all of us.

Please share thank you
