The Royal Archives has a uniquely rich and engrossing history, and contains the official and personal archives of the Sovereign and Members of the Royal Family spanning 250 years.

Joining a small team of specialists, you’ll assist researchers with their varied requests and enquiries.

You’ll locate records requested by researchers, process orders for copies and assist with cataloguing and indexing.

You’ll also help ensure the correct storage, handling and conservation of records, all of which will build up your experience and expertise.

Handling a vast array of queries will challenge and stretch you. And working with both internal colleagues and external researchers, who may be authors, academics or members of the general public, you’ll gain a broad foundation of knowledge.

In everything you do you'll aim to engage a growing audience with an expanding collection of nationally significant material, and this will continue you inspire you.

 

About you:

 

You’ll have a desire to develop a career in archival work, potentially with a passion for modern history.

Most important for this, is your strong attention to detail and organisational skills, which will help you to answer queries quickly and effectively.

Confident IT skills are also a must, and any experience using databases would be useful.

You’re a good communicator with an approachable manner, able to work with a variety of people.

Educated to a-level standard (or equivalent), you’ll have good written communication skills as well, able to adapt your style for different purposes.

Self-motivated, you'll enjoy working independently, but also will work well alongside a team of specialists.
