Dear colleagues,

Many of you signed the petition I circulated in 2012 asking the SCMS Executive Board to consider additional support for parents traveling to the annual conference.  While an online childcare forum was established in response to our request, little else has been done.

Katherine Groo and I are now re-circulating a similar petition, asking the Executive Board, once again, to support parents attending the conference.  Please consider signing the petition, even if your own children are no longer in need of childcare — it’s been 7 years since the last petition, after all — or even if don’t have children.  This is an issue that disproportionately affects women and is especially difficult for graduate students and contingent faculty.

Please feel free to circulate the petition to other SCMS members.  Just be sure to sign on before May 31, as we are aiming to get the petition to the Board before their next meeting in June.

Many thanks,

Shelley and Katherine
