In the centenary year of the Forestry Commission, Forestry England has been established as the new body responsible for managing the public forest estate (PFE) and the Forestry Commission’s commercial activities in England. The PFE is the largest single landholding in the country comprising over 1500 separate properties including a wide range of forested and open land, housing, commercial property and a variety recreation/leisure businesses receiving over 200 million visits a year.

It is an exciting time to join Forestry England in this period of change as it sets itself up to operate as an executive agency of the Forestry Commission, an arm’s length body and a public corporation. The newly created Corporate Affairs Team (CAT) has a key role to play in shaping Forestry England through providing expert support services on matters concerning governance and information management as well as secretariat services to the Forestry England Chief Executive Non-Executive Board, and senior staff.

Purpose of the Job

The role of Information and Data Protection Manager provides a unique and exciting opportunity for an individual interested in influencing the establishment of a knowledge and information service. The role will support a significant change programme for Forestry England, providing the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals and teams based in locations across England.

The CAT team is looking for an experienced and self-motivated information and data protection professional. The post holder will use their data protection and information rights experience and knowledge to support the Head of Corporate Affairs and the Knowledge and Information Management Lead in establishing the new KIM function.

The post holder will have operational responsibility for information management and data protection compliance across Forestry England helping to ensure obligations under information rights and data protection laws are met.
