Date: Tuesday 9 April

Time: 5:30-8:30pm

Venue: Wolfson Theatre, Lower Ground, New Academic Building, LSE

LSE EmbRace and LSE Spectrum are pleased to present a special screening of the Barry Jenkins 2016 film Moonlight, followed by a Q&A session with Dr Clive James Nwonka, Dr Sam Mejias, LGBT activist Dennis Carney and film critic Kelli Weston. Moonlight permits an analysis of the film's fusion of blackness and masculinity and its interactions with questions of sexual identity, race and representation. We are excited to bring these themes to the forefront of an open discussion.

Chair:

Dr Clive James Nwonka: LSE Fellow in Film Studies, Department of Sociology

Panelists:

Dennis Carney: Chair of the Black Gay Men’s Advisory Group (BGMAG), Co-founder of Loving Men and recipient of the Black LGBT Community Awards

Kelli Weston: Film Critic, Sight and Sound/Film Comment

Sam Meijas, LSE Research Fellow, Department Media and Communications

Refreshments will be available after the film and Q&A. This is a free event.
