Hi Dave

Wakefield is definitely interested and would benefit from this open data approach. Could you get back to me to discuss please.

Many thanks

Lynne

Subject: Mobile library project

Hello,

Hopefully this doesn't come across as spam. I'm a member of the public sector and not selling anything.

I’d like to invite library services to help in creating a free and open-source software solution to hold data on mobile library stops, routes, and timetables.

It may sound boring, but the end-goal is to create a single solution for the public to view standardised information on their mobile library.

As an example of a current problem, each service publishes their own timetables. A significant number of these are documents that solely use colour-coding to determine when the mobile will turn up. Another service hasn't published any timetable for a couple of years, and advises users to phone.

That's not to shame anyone, lost staff and lack of time may be the cause. But a combined and free system could be beneficial, where accessible timetables could be automatically generated from data.

There are other potential benefits, such as providing an alternative to commercial route management software, route efficiency and fuel consumption analysis, stop location demographics, catchment population, etc.

Some services may have already heard from me directly, others please feel free to get in touch. Plus software developers, library users, user-experience experts, and anyone interested. It would be great to get a range of experience and not make silly mistakes by not consulting enough.

Follow #mobilelibrarydata hashtag on twitter for updates as well.

Thanks, and enjoy the upcoming long weekend.

Dave
