[Apologies for cross-posting]

SaM (Signals and Multimedia) is a special session at CBMI 2019 that aims to
bring together researchers who use signals (of any kind) as a means to
enrich multimedia data and support access. In our viewpoint, signals
represent any form of metadata that accompanies multimedia content, such as
locations with photos, annotations with video, etc. The SaM special session
welcomes contributions relating to all aspects of signals and multimedia,
and particularly from approaches that may leverage atypical types of
information that augment how we use or think about indexing, browsing,
managing, visualising and analysing multimedia data. Similarly,
contributions are welcome from those who use biosignals (e.g. EEG, GSR,
ECG, EOG, Eye-tracking, Facial Activity, etc) and other types of
human-generated signals.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Novel signals for multimedia content, such as biosignals and other novel
signal sources,

- Signals used in indexing, search or visualisation of multimedia content
including new approaches to experimental methodologies and paradigms;

- Perspectives and approaches to improve how we access and use multimedia
data using signals;

- Emerging multimedia access technologies such as VR, AR and pervasive
interfaces that integrate signals into the retrieval process;

- Theory-based contributions on how biosignals may be used in indexing,
search or visualisation of multimedia content including experimental
methodologies and paradigms;

- Strategies, algorithms and methods that leverage biosignals (or other
novel signal types) to augment multimedia data and its access.

About the conference:

CBMI is the annual conference that brings together the various communities
involved in all aspects of content-based multimedia indexing for retrieval,
browsing, management, visualisation and analytics. After 15 successful
editions of the CBMI workshop, CBMI became a conference in 2018 and the
next edition will take place in Dublin, Ireland from 4-6 September 2019.
The scientific program will include invited keynote talks, regular papers,
demonstration papers and three special sessions on “Medical Image Mining
and Health” (MIME), “Signals and Multimedia” (SaM), and “Multimedia
Indexing for Comics” (MIC). All papers published at CMBI 2019 will be
published by IEEE and all submissions will be peer reviewed by at least
three experienced reviewers.

Submission:

Authors are invited to submit papers (4-6 pages in IEEE double-column
format) via the submission site of CBMI 2019 to “Special Session: Signals
and Multimedia” track. Each submission will be peer-reviewed by 2-3 PC
members.
