HI Peter I believe the National Autistic Society holds information on a database regarding diagnosticians. The Autism Service Directory for 'Worcester' area has details on about 4 independent diagnostic services as well as links to the local health and mental health services. For example the Umbrella Diagnostic Pathway is used in Worcestershire NHS. The NAS helpline would provide info on diagnosis and rights and entitlements. 0808 800 4104 Monday to Thursday 10am-4pm and Friday 9am-3pm Perseverance needed to get through. Other services that might have more local knowledge is the West Midlands Autistic Society. The NICE guidelines relating to young people / autism says referral to a specialist team should be done within 3 months of the referral. I realise this would be a 'target' and many areas are not attaining this, but parent should know their rights. I can not believe someone would 'suggest' waiting 2 years - at 11 the only thing on the horizon are more challenges from adolescence, which can often complicate matters further. It's been suggested that she could wait two years to have him assessed via his local authority. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a potential assessor in the West Midlands area - ideally local to Redditch. Any advice/suggestions would be gratefully received.
