The University of Bristol becomes the newest organization to join the Digital Preservation Coalition as Associate Member this month.

The University holds a wide range of digital assets in its cultural collections including born digital materials, digitized and analogue material. With the aim of safeguarding these assets for future use, as well as embedding digital collections in teaching, learning and research, the Library in conjunction with the University’s Theatre Collection has embarked on a project to implement a digital preservation system.

“We believe that membership of the DPC will help us to understand the broader digital preservation landscape and think strategically about our work,” explains Emma Hancox, Digital Archivist for the University of Bristol. “We are especially keen to attend the DPC’s briefing days and look forward to joining an active network of digital preservation professionals with whom we can exchange experiences and ideas.”

Executive Director of the DPC, William Kilbride welcomed the University, saying: “We are delighted that the University of Bristol has joined the DPC. They join a group of more than 30 dedicated Higher Education and research institutions within the Coalition who are committed to ensuring future generations can continue to access our digital legacy, and we look forward to supporting them in this goal.”

The not-for-profit DPC is an international advocate for digital preservation, helping members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
