I couldn’t make any sense of the objections to David’s post until I realized that there was some bit of sense in understanding that *complimentary* (praising or approving) could be interpreted as "like me" where *complementary* (completing or balancing) was clearly meant to say the opposite. The exchange may be a good reminder of the value of assuming the best of people or at least trying to clarify before concluding the worst.
