I have just done a short review of recent work on the history of the field internationally. It's at Media Culture and Society online first:

This is a well-treated theme in US scholarship of course but good to see the frame going broader, with no doubt more to follow.

My review is largely an account (highly selective) of key themes in the works reviewed.
