The School of Media and Communication is home to a vibrant community of renowned practitioners, theorists and thinkers. It is one of only two Schools in Australia to receive a ‘well above world standard’ ERA 5 ranking in the most recent Excellence for Research in Australia exercise for media and communication.

In the 2019 QS World University Ranking by subject, RMIT Communications and Media Studies was ranked 37th in the world and 4th in Australia.

Key research endeavours include the Digital Ethnography Research Centre (DERC) which is internationally renowned for its cutting-edge digital qualitative methods.
