I thought Claire was more interested in sharing search findings than search strategies, but there’s more detail on the EAHIL sharing search blocks project at https://sites.google.com/site/eahilblocks/

Subject: Re: Putting lit searches onto internet / intranet

Dear Claire,

This has been suggested before:

http://ojs.eahil.eu/ojs/index.php/JEAHIL/article/view/54

There has been a few tries to collect the search strategies.

1: MedTerm Assist from Pittsburgh University

URL: https://www.hsls.pitt.edu/terms/ [not sure if it works]

Paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24735266

Comment: I used it once to deliver a search block and it took too long that I gave up using it. However, I always appreciated that their team actually thought about this and started the first initiative and I have cited their work as a librarian-led effort.

2: Search Strategy Library [URL Unknown]

URL: Unknown

Presentation: Lina Gulhane. A Search Strategy Library: Ready for action. Joint Information Day 28th February 2018

Upcoming Workshop: Lina Gulhane. Search strategy library: testing and evaluating a resource for sharing literature searches and blocks. EAHIL 2019

Comment: I have never seen this library, I also contacted Lina Gulhane on 8 Feb 2019 via active email address but did not receive any reply. I appreciate if anyone can pass this to her as this initiative may worth trying.

3: 2dSearch

URL: https://app.2dsearch.com/

Paper: https://doi.org/10.1145/3295750.3298919

Example of Sharing My Search: https://app.2dsearch.com:/new-query/5c574dec1028b600049af911 [no login required unless you want personal stuff]

Comment: I use 2dSearch as my personal library and I have added about 50 of my search blocks in this platform but I made a suggestion to the development team to make it possible to share my search blocks publicly. It is now covering PubMed and a few medical database but it is developing in good pace. Another reason I use 2dSearch is that you could share your search with someone else for peer-review purpose (Example above), it also detects duplicate terms; I used it for training a few students who had issue with understanding AND and OR with Venn diagram and search box and two-dimensional canvas in this platform worked for them [I need more evidence to use it widely]. I also don’t like developing the search strategies in Microsoft Word or Google Docs because of auto-correction of truncated words, auto-conversion of quotation mark, sticky words when you share the search in word with team, etc. [paper under review] so 2dSearch works for me for certain purposes and the team is eager to receive suggestions.

I requested the team and they agree to provide all the main search filters for this platform. They also plan to set publicly shareable search strategies so that we could all share our search blocks from all databases. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to pass it to the team or to me and I will pass it on.

How this helps.

Bests,

Farhad

Dear Colleagues,

We are thinking of having a repository of sorts for completed literature searches searchable by members of staff in order to facilitate good knowledge management and sharing throughout the Trust.

Does anyone out there already do this? If so which software / format do you use? We have LibGuides so were wondering if anyone has used it for that purpose?

Any thoughts or tips gratefully received.

Many thanks,
