Dear Colleagues,

We would like to remind you of the deadline for abstract submission to Goldschmidt 2019 conference in Barcelona (this Friday 29 March at 23:59 CET), and draw your attention to the following session:

Thermochronology and the Redistribution of Radiogenic Isotopes: The Roles of Temperature, Fluid and Deformation

Keynote: Steven Reddy (Curtin University)

The thermal histories of accessory and some rock-forming minerals within the Earth and in meteorites can provide key information to investigate numerous fundamental processes ranging from planetary accretion and the timing of ejection and impact of asteroids, to plate tectonics, the formation of mountains and the evolution of sedimentary basins. However, the acquisition of quantitative constraints for thermal histories using volume diffusion also requires an understanding of how and to what extent fluid interaction and deformation redistribute isotopes of Pb, Ar and He. We request contributions that address the mechanisms of isotope redistribution over length scales from intra-crystal to outcrop. Can U-Pb, Ar and (U-Th)/He isotope data be used to accurately reconstruct thermal histories in a wide range of cases (e.g. wet and dry, deformed and undeformed), or does the distribution of these isotopes in minerals mainly reflect recrystallisation and retrogression, and/or deformation? Petrological characterisation is paramount to generate meaningful interpretations, and we specifically encourage authors to integrate their isotopic data with microtextural and compositional observations. We also request contributions that advance analytical methods in thermochronology, such as the acquisition of two/three dimensional element and age maps.
