"Professionalisation and the ever changing HE data landscape" by Andy Youell (former Director of Data Governance & Policy at HESA)

We are delighted to announce we will be hosting Andy Youell at Cardiff University on Monday 8th April!  Andy is an experienced data professional who has been at the leading edge of data issues across higher education for over 25 years. His work has covered all aspects of the data and systems life-cycle and, in recent years, he has focused on improving the HE sector’s relationship with data through improved governance and data capabilities. He is especially interested in the tensions that exist between the rigid structures of data and the dynamic complexities of the world it attempts to represent.

9:30-9:45 Introduction and scene setting 
by Deborah Collins (Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary, Cardiff University)

9:45-11:00 The ever changing HE data landscape (Andy Youell)
This session will cover the massive changes currently underway in the HE Data Landscape including the transition from JACS to HECoS and the introduction of rolling HESA student returns.

11.15-12:30 The Professionalisation of Data in HE (Andy Youell)
This session will cover the ever increasing availability, scale and complexity of HE Data and the ways our peers across the sector are adapting to this rapidly evolving environment.

12:30-13:00 Cardiff Data Professionals 
An introduction to Cardiff University’s HESPA award-winning network of data and analysis experts. The session will cover the adoption of the HESA Code of Practice and implementation of the NESTA ‘Data Unicorn’ Competencies.
