Hi Andy,

The BA means very different things in different places, but I had to interpret a dead calf deposit within this article:

Piccione, P.–Alvaro, C.–Bartosiewicz, L.–Lemorini, C.–Masi, A.–Sadori, L. 2015. Distribution of artefacts and ecofacts in an Early Bronze Age house in Eastern Anatolia: Space use and household economy at Arslantepe VI B2 (2900–2750 BCE). Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports 4: 8–22.

If you cannot download it, I can send a copy off-list.

Best, Laszlo

Hi Andy
A few years ago I excavated a deer placed in a Bronze Age pit in Southern Portugal. (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/321295904_O_sitio_de_fossas_da_Horta_do_Cabral_6_Contribuicao_para_o_conhecimento_da_Idade_do_Bronze_na_regiao_do_Torrao_Alcacer_do_Sal_Portugal)

In the same area, a complete skeleton of a young suid was excavated within a funerary pit (http://www.academia.edu/2338841/As_din%C3%A2micas_de_deposi%C3%A7%C3%A3o_e_constru%C3%A7%C3%A3o_no_s%C3%ADtio_pr%C3%A9-hist%C3%B3rico_de_Horta_de_Jacinto_Beringel_Beja_)
Unfortunatly, both works were published in portuguese.

I hope this helps

All the best

Afternoon everyone,

I have some bones to look at from a Bronze age site the south west of England.

The site consists of a partially excavated Ring Ditch. I have an articulated calf (about 6-8mths old) that has come from this ditch. As can be seen this animal has clearly been placed and is aligned with the ditch. It’s not just an animal that has died for whatever reason and then dumped in a convenient ditch to dispose of it.

Anyone got any references for this kind of deposition?

As always Many thanks in advance
Andy
