Quality Review Visit: South West College, March 2018
Dear Colleagues

We are seeking a new External Examiner for our PgCertificate in HE Practice (PgCHEP) and newly validated MEd programme.  This position will start in Autumn 2019, after our current External's term finishes. Appointment is normally for a four-year period and as part of your tenure, you will be expected to attend an External Examiners’ one-day induction in mid-September 2019.  Examination and progress boards are held three times per year (February, June and August) and you will be expected to attend at least one of these in person, usually in June.  These boards will take place at our Jordanstown campus (https://www.ulster.ac.uk/campuses/jordanstown), within easy access to both Belfast City airport and Belfast International airport.

The PgCHEP is a long-running programme which is designed for early career educators at Ulster University, and for many is a probationary requirement. It comprises three compulsory modules, and is currently accredited by Advance-HE at both D1 (AFHEA) and D2 (FHEA) as part of an articulated programme. An additional CPD module (First Steps to Teaching) is also linked to this provision providing an opportunity for GTAs to gain AFHEA.

The MEd offers a certificated route for CPD beyond the mandatory initial professional development of higher education professionals required by the University in the form of a professional and practice-based part-time master’s degree. It seeks to provide a broad range of development opportunities to a wide body of participants: the modules have been designed to provide participants with fit-for-purpose learning opportunities commensurate with their role, disciplinary background and the context and strategic priorities of the University. A strand running through all modules is the encouragement and development of participants’ leadership skills and knowledge required for the effective identification, planning and implementation of enhancement to professional practice and dissemination thereof.

In line with the accreditation policy of Advance-HE, the successful applicant for this position would have to hold SFHEA as a minimum, have experience of making Fellowship decisions and running a similar programme at another UK HEI.  Someone with experience of practice-based action research and related assessment would be highly beneficial.

If you are interested in this role please email a short CV outlining your relevant experience together with a statement of interest to [log in to unmask]  by Wednesday 6th March 2019.
