Hi Joe,

The dashboard work is indeed something that we would expect all customers to have some interest in, and so the technology behind these developments is being built to support that.

As I say "watch this space" :)

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

Are these dashboards being developed for the benefit of all Talis customers? I too have been working with Google Analytics and BI platforms to build out usage data so am excited to hear more about developments in this area. 😊

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Alan, Kristy,

Google analytics is very good at tracking marketing web pages with calls to action, but is not designed to monitor interactions at the level of detail that universities would like when talking about reading lists and how students and academics are using them. The use case in this thread being a prime example of that.

There are several strands of work underway at Talis which when combined will provide much greater insight into how lists are being accessed, and how resources are being used. Worcester are already helping us as we pilot some of the dashboard ideas we are looking at, and we look forward to being able to share more on this area soon in case studies as the beta universities share their feedback.

If you would like to be part of these discussions then please do get in touch with us via a support ticket and we can make sure that your interest is logged with the appropriate team at Talis.

Many thanks,

Tim

Hi Kirsty

I’ve been pondering this for a year and I my current thinking is:

I believe our best guess of whether a user has gone to Talis first and then searched for a list or followed a list or section link in a VLE subject site is to use the Behaviour heading, then the Site Content subsection and then choose 'Landing pages' (i.e. the first page accessed in a session).

Any session that starts with the index page has come from our web presence or a user has typed in our customised Talis domain. ALL the rest indicate a link to a list or section from a VLE subject site.

However if you want to be really accurate filter by /lists/ and /sections/ (and maybe /items/ - I’m not sure I trust this last one) and ignore /users/, /lti/, /ui/, /feedback/, /search/ (although I’m not sure how you get to search first without already being in Talis – except for having a search widget embedded somewhere else – which we do, but it’s still a prototype and not released to the users – it should not appear as often as it does in our GA)

Talis should really think about providing some doco on the relationship between Talis actions and Google Analytics, or at least compiling the responses your question gets J.

Cheers, Alan.

Subject: Google Analytics and TARL

Hi all

I wondered if any forum members that have a good knowledge of interaction between TARL and Google Analytics could drop me a line. I’m particularly interested in how and what GA stats/clicks are recorded when students go directly to Resource Lists via the VLE (we use Blackboard), how/what clicks/hits are recorded when accessing sections or bookmarks where the LTI tool is used and if you’ve noticed any particular changes in data since switching to New List View.

I’ve raised a support ticket with Aspire but would be good to hear from direct colleagues who are in the know, if you have any knowledge and information to share directly be glad to hear it.

Many Thanks

Kristy
