The provision of accurate, accessible information by government organisations is a critical part of our democracy. Current government information online approaches are based on the belief that it will enable improvements in the provision of government services and citizens' participation in democratic processes. The expectation is that citizens have a right to know, and that in the delivery of government information to the public they have a right to privacy. However, there are inevitable gaps between the assumptions of government and the expectations and abilities of citizens to access and use this information ethically and effectively. This event draws on a range of perspectives to explore those gaps and the current and potential activities that might bridge them.
