        <p><span><b><span style="font-size: small">About the Improvement Service </span></b></span><br />
        The Improvement Service (IS) is a publicly funded company limited by guarantee, with a total annual budget in the region of £8 million.</p>
        <p>Our core purpose is to help support councils and their partners to improve the health, quality of life and opportunities of all people in Scotland through community leadership, strong local governance and the delivery of high quality, efficient local services. We do this by providing a range of products and providing advisory services including consultation and facilitation, learning and skills, performance management and improvement, and research.</p>
        <p>Working for the IS means joining a small family of professionals, who work together to strive for continuous improvement and efficiency in Local Government and the wider public sector and ultimately, better outcomes for Scotland’s communities.</p>
        <p>Our office is based in Livingston, West Lothian, located conveniently for commuters between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Pay is only one of the benefits of working for the IS, our terms and conditions are progressive and flexible and employees are rewarded with a generous annual leave entitlement of forty days per year as well as a flexible working policy as operations permit.</p>
        <p><span style="font-size: small"><b>About the role </b></span><br />
        The Improvement Service works with public sector bodies to improve outcomes and develop solutions to meet digital service needs for Scottish citizens and service providers. One aspect of this is to support Scottish local government’s input into the programme of work overseen by the Improvement Service Board and the support of the One Scotland Mapping Agreement.</p>
        <p>The Spatial Information Service has been in place for over three years and has matured into a functioning service which covers three business areas: the One Scotland Gazetteer (OSG), TellMe Scotland and the Spatial Hub. The OSG and TellMe applications have been developed by TCS and Spider respectively, whilst the Spatial Hub was developed in-house. All three applications are hosted on a cloud based infrastructure.</p>
        <p>The role involves the maintenance and further development of the technologies which form the Spatial Hub, as well more general development of related business applications. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with internal and external customers to articulate their needs and translate these into products.</p>
