It is a shame that I'm not a US student.

Following my inquiry in the previous mail, I would appreciate if you could pass this information along to interested students.

Thank you,

Alaska Geology Field Camp - Summer 2019

The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) offers an 8-credit, 8-week Geology Field Camp (Geos F454) from June 13 to August 5, 2019. There are a few spots available for students enrolled in an US university. Spots are available until filled.

The field course takes advantage of the great variety of different geologic settings offered by Alaska’s complex geology. Students are given the opportunity to develop field mapping skills in regions with volcanic, metamorphic and igneous rocks, clastic and carbonate sedimentary rocks, and complex structural relations. Following introduction in Fairbanks with wilderness first aid, gun and bear safety courses, three different areas in Central Alaska are visited for increasingly challenging and independent mapping exercises: Healy, Denali National Park & Preserve, and the Talkeetna Mountains. The instructors are UAF faculty members with extensive field and research experience in in remote Alaska.

The UAF Geology Field Camp will appeal to students who enjoy remote wilderness camping. The camp is unique in that the main study area in the Talkeetna Mountains is reached by bush plane. Great wildlife spotting is guaranteed!

A professional cook will accompany us throughout the whole field camp and will do all the purchasing, meal planning (accommodating all dietary requirements) and cooking.

Tuition and fees are the same for all students and are very competitive. The costs for the 2019 field camp amount to $4,700 and include undergraduate tuition of 8 credits and Geosciences Department fees, transport to and from field areas, accommodation in the field, three meals in the field, lunch/sandwich bar in Fairbanks. Not included are mandatory accident insurance (ca. $140) for remote field areas, initial travel to and departure from Fairbanks, meals and housing in Fairbanks.
