Hi GEMmers

I’m looking to access the collective knowledge to find some comparators for a project I’m working on.

I’m working with a community group (a partnership of interests) to explore the feasibility and sustainability of them taking on the lease of a historic warehouse and converting it into a multi-use community facility. Uses are as yet to be decided (subject to what will be most viable architecturally and financially) but would include a heritage offer (may or may not have museum collection) and probably a cafe, maybe office rental or holiday flats. The group would also transition into some form of charitable organisation (type to be decided) to be the body to take on the lease and manage the building.

So I’m interested in any case studies where:

a group has successfully transitioned into a charitable organisation to run a community use building
a successfully run mixed-use historic building where it is not in local authority or agency control ie where it is third sector

Hoping there are some examples out there!
