Dear
Zooarchers,
The University of Manchester will be hosting UKAS 2019 and is looking forward to welcoming the archaeological science community to Manchester, the first industrial city and academic home to many famous scientists including Boyd Dawkins, Chadwick, Dalton,
Drew-Baker, Joule, Ollerenshaw, Rutherford, Stopes, J.J. Thomson and Turing. In addition to being the first female academic member of staff at the University of Manchester, Marie Stopes, famed for her ground-breaking work on sexual health, was also a well
renowned palaeobiologist. William Boyd Dawkins, former Curator of the Manchester Museum and Professor of Geology, also achieved many distinctions in archaeology but particularly noted for his research in Late Pleistocene cave assemblages.
The conference will take place in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (MIB), a few minutes walk from Manchester Picadilly train station. The Welcome Reception will be held at the Manchester Museum fossil gallery on the 24th April with some of Boyd
Dawkins' faunal collections in the surrounding displays. The conference dinner will be held on the 26th April at Christies Bistro, based in the nearby old Science Library of Owens College.
Information regarding key dates and themes for abstract submission is available on the conference website
