Hi Catherine,
I am an alumni from the University of Southern Maine, Geography-Anthropology program. I started my interest in zooarchaeology during my BA as there is an impressive zooarch lab in the Gorham campus. I would suggest contacting the department chair Lydia Savage, and the archaeology professor Nathan Hamilton (when I was in school in 2015 he was curating all of the archaeological materials), to see if they could use some volunteer work.
Let them know I referred you!

Subject: Student work in New England

This message is for anyone in the New England area, especially near Boston: I direct the Boston University Zooarchaeology Lab and we have many, many students who want to volunteer. We have so many that I am running out of material for them to work with! If you have any collections (comparative or archaeological) that need to be sorted, labeled, or otherwise examined, please let me know if you’d be interested in loaning them to our lab.

Thanks,
Catherine
