Hi Catherine, I am an alumni from the University of Southern Maine, Geography-Anthropology program. I started my interest in zooarchaeology during my BA as there is an impressive zooarch lab in the Gorham campus. I would suggest contacting the department chair Lydia Savage, and the archaeology professor Nathan Hamilton (when I was in school in 2015 he was curating all of the archaeological materials), to see if they could use some volunteer work.
