Hello WANers,
there is of course the german word Wanderlust, which can never be really translated. It is normally translated into itchy feet. But it is the 'lust to wander'.
There is also another german word called Fernweh; literally translated it means Farsick. But it is the opposite of Homesick. in the dictionary they translate it as wanderlust (haha) or itchy feet.

I would like to add a Turkish word, tabanvay. This jocularly made-up word is currently in the dictionary. It connects taban (meaning sole in English) and the English word way, thus meaning sole-way.I like this word because it emphasizes the fact that walking is a mode of transportation (like tramway etc.) and is used to point out that someone went somewhere afoot, thus on tabanvay.
Best,
nazlı

Sent from my iPhoneGreat idea,
Here two contributions from Huntly to start with:
Slow Marathon - a marathon length walk in Huntly/Aberdeenshire and other places, where people can walk as slow as they like. Celebrating the human pace, it is both an endurance event as well as a poetic act that brings together friendship, physical activity and an appreciation of our varied landscapes.
The Walking Institute: A peripatetic school for the human pace - it explores, researches and celebrates the human pace by bringing walking and other journeying activities together with arts and other cultural disciplines and people from all walks of life.
