Dear all

Please find below, bilingual details of a training event and resource that might be of interest.

Norena Shopland has created a new guide that helps anyone researching LGBT history in historic collections.  While it takes Glamorgan Archives’ collection as its case study, and despite it being called 'Queering Glamorgan' and it's links to Wales, it is a guide which can be used in any English language archive or historic collection around the world.

A number of guides on researching LGBT history exist, but many provide only summaries of resources available, and rely on modern terminology much of which cannot be used past the mid-twentieth century. In addition, due to the legal status of male homosexuality, existing guides and glossaries have concentrated on the male experience.

Queering Glamorgan is the first in-depth guide in Wales, the first to provide expanded information on the experience of women, and the first to include material relating to gender diversity in history. This new way of gathering LGBTQ+ material provides a template which can be expanded to any local area to recover from the margins people and events which have not been previously possible to identify. Described as ‘pioneering’ Queering Glamorgan rejects established timelines and set approaches, and aims to recover from the margins excluded histories which will serve only to strengthen Outsider history.

The guide is downloadable here:

Cyfle hyfforddiant AM DDIM

A hithau’n seiliedig ar ddatblygu ‘Queering Glamorgan: A Research Guide to Sources for the Study of LGBT History’, bydd y sesiwn hon yn dangos i’r cyfranogwyr sut i nodi, a chwilio am, gynnwys lesbiaidd, hoyw, deurywiol a thrawsryweddol  (LGBT) mewn deunydd hanesyddol.

Erbyn diwedd y cwrs bydd cyfranogwyr yn meddu ar ddealltwriaeth o’r iaith gymhleth a ddefnyddir i nodi pobl a digwyddiadau LGBT yn y cofnod archifol, a sut i roi cyhoeddusrwydd i’r cynnwys hwnnw.  Byddant yn gallu sefydlu projectau ymchwil yn eu sefydliadau eu hunain a goruchwylio gwirfoddolwyr/staff sy’n cyflawni projectau i nodi cynnwys LGBT.

Bydd yr hyfforddiant yn cael ei arwain gan Norena Shopland, Ymchwilydd LGBT. Gwelwch isod am raglen llawn.
