Dear all,

I would like to alert you to the forthcoming poster abstract deadline (11th February*) for the Faraday Discussion on ‘Ultrafast photo-induced energy and charge transfer’<http://www.rsc.org/events/detail/29702/ultrafast-photoinduced-energy-and-charge-transfer-faraday-discussion> between 8-10 April 2019 in California.

*Please note the additional funding available to support US based graduate students and post-doctoral researchers to attend this meeting.

Faraday Discussions are unique conferences, with the emphasis given to in-depth scientific discussions of the ~25 papers distributed to all participants prior to the meeting. All delegates at the meeting have the opportunity to make comments, or present complementary/contradictory experimental or theoretical results during the discussion. These remarks are published alongside papers in the final fully citable volume. Furthermore, there will be a poster session for students and postdocs to present their new experimental and theoretical research, which are highlighted to all attendees in a lightening presentation session.

The meeting will focus on the following 4 themes:
(i) Energy and charge-transfer in photosynthesis; (ii) Photovoltaics and bio-inspired light harvesting; (iii) Photo-induced electron transfer; (iv) Photo-protection/photo-damage in natural systems

And invited contributions from the following research groups will be presented at the Discussion:
Majed Chergui (Introductory lecture)
Bern Kohler (Closing remarks)
David Beratan
Sharon Hammes-Schiffer
Andy Marcus
Spiridoula Matsika
Alexandra Olaya-Castro
Tomáš Polívka
Emily Weiss

Funding for PhD students and post-docs
Both non-competitive (£200) bursaries and competitive grants (£800) are available to early career members of the Royal Society of Chemistry (associate membership for PhD students is £20/year). Further support is also available from the Association of British Spectroscopists.

*The United States Department of Energy has provided support in the form of $500 bursaries for up to 30 graduate students and 10 post-doctoral researchers based at Universities in the USA to attend this meeting. To be eligible for this bursary the student or postdoc should present a poster at the meeting.

Full details of bursaries can be found here<http://www.rsc.org/events/detail/29702/ultrafast-photoinduced-energy-and-charge-transfer-faraday-discussion>.

We look forward to seeing you in Ventura this coming April,

Tom Oliver
University of Bristol

On behalf of the whole Scientific Committee: Mike Ashfold (Bristol co-chair), Steve Bradforth (USC co-chair), Naomi Ginsberg (UC Berkeley), Jennifer Ogilvie (Michigan), Tom Oliver (Bristol), Vas Stavros (Warwick).
