James
I am currently creating six digital tours for small town in Scotland and have been doing research on the options from purpose developed app through to street furniture and QR codes.
If your person wants to contact me then happy to share what I have done and the conclusion which is to do a bit of everything except place all the money into app development. I'd agree with Neil's view on that.
While not using actual artefacts I am hoping to put NFC chips into some material and ubiquitous objects that represent oral histories and significant industry of the town.
Some great examples and suggestions coming through this thread though!!!
