Dear All,

Further to the below email, I thank all those that have participated so far in the IAFIG Questionnaire on funding. We so far have 65 replies, which is very good progress, but I am really hoping to exceed 100 replies at least.

If you haven’t already, then I once again invite you to fill out the questionnaire, takes (5 mins):

The outputs of the questionnaire are shaping up very well and the answers are converging  quite specifically which is fantastic. Some of you pointed out that BBSRC and ERC were missing from the funders list. This was an error on my part and has now been corrected for the subsequent participants. Many people have input BBSRC in the ‘other’ category and so I don’t think this poses a problem in terms of calculation.

Best wishes,
Dominic Waithe

Dear All,

Bioimage analysis is an emergent discipline which develops and supports image analysis applicable within the life sciences. The community's need for bioimage analysis is becoming more urgent as research moves towards becoming more automated and larger scale. Due to the grass roots nature of this discipline the funding sources and job specification are still not well defined (https://dwaithe.github.io/blog_20161127.html). It is becoming clear that to retain the best talent we need to improve and develop the way in which these researchers are funded. The goal of this questionnaire is to establish how  researchers are presently funded with respect to image analysis and to ascertain whether the available funding is appropriate to their needs.

With that in mind I invite you to fill out the following questionnaire, takes (5 mins):

I would be very grateful to you for filling it out and forwarding it to anyone who performs some kind of bioimage analysis in their job. Although the outputs of this questionnaire are focused on shaping the policy in the UK, it is hoped, if successful, the model will be applied elsewhere, therefore I encourage you to fill it out even if you do not currently work in the UK.

Any questions then please let me know.
Best wishes,

Dominic Waithe
