Hi Nicki

Wimpole Farm (NT) have a similar set up. It is nearly a mile from the car park to the farm which used to be a long trudge. They have now turned it into a pleasant meander by including sculptures in the shape of upside down tree roots and mirrors in the trees. Therefore a cheap but engaging way to make the walk more interesting. Good luck with it.

Best wishes

Hello I’d be tempted to frame it as an opportunity to do something as a group, so making it time to spend with friends and classmates, as well as to notice nature, so that the daily mile is a cobenefit. Maybe a tractor/trailer trip every other time, or one way (back from the museum), would keep some of that element of it.

Yours,

Subject: The Daily Mile

Hello,

I’ve been measuring the distance between our museum and working farm and have discovered a walk there and back is pretty much one mile exactly!

Our tractor/trailer trips to the farm are very popular with visiting schools but I’d like to highlight the walk as a healthier option with a chance to see more of the changes in seasons, animals in the field, flora and fauna etc. I’d like to highlight that a visit to the farm can cover the daily mile for any visiting class.

Does anyone know of other museums/heritage organisations that have used this as an incentive for groups to get out and about on their sites?

Any info much appreciated! You can find out more about the Daily Mile here: https://thedailymile.co.uk/

Thanks

Nicki
