We've got an on-going project in Newcastle, Simply Cracking Good Stories. Since 2010 creative writer Margaret Wilkinson and I have been working with creative writing postgrads from whom it's not too difficult to get engaging narratives for 100-400-word fiction books for our readership, migrant adults learning to read for the first time, in English. It is very difficult to find talented artists to contribute their work for images for these books. In the past I enlisted undergrads (language and linguistics students) to create short books but these are rather amateurish. Marcin Sosinski in Granada continues to produce such books with his undergrads in Spanish. We've done a bit of research on this; see Young-Scholten, M., M. Sosinski & A. Martín Rubio. 2015. Undergrads’ involvement in producing short fiction books for immigrant adult beginners in England and Spain. Language Issues 26:55-60.

Subject: Creative Writing and ESOL

Dear all,

I wonder, does anyone here have information about any research done in the area of Creative Writing and ESOL, in the UK or abroad? Any pointers would be appreciated much.

Many thanks in advance,
Ayesha
